FAQ’s

Where are your locations?
We have five open wine storage facilities serving Los Angeles and San Francisco. Our Los Angeles wine storage facilities are in Hermosa Beach, Playa del Rey, Marina del Rey, Hollywood, Downtown LA on Bunker Hill, and LAX. Our San Francisco wine storage facility is in South Beach SOMA near Brannan and Delancy streets.

What size wine lockers or wine rooms do you have?
As collectors ourselves, we designed lockers that are easy to use. Each shelf in your wine locker is 3 cases wide, just 2 cases deep, and just 2 cases high with doors that fully open. This costs us much more to build but we think you will find it worthwhile. We offer wine storage lockers for 12 to 60 cases and walk in wine storage rooms for 80 to 1,000 plus cases. Check our locations page to find details on what sizes are available at each of our wine storage facilities.

How do I determine how much space I need?
Our lockers are designed to hold standard stand up cardboard cases though we include so much “finger room” that generally you can get 10 -12 lay down cases (wood or cardboard) in the same space. When choosing a size, keep in mind that our facilities often reach 100% capacity so you may want to consider one size larger than your current needs if you think you may be growing your collection.

Can I lease more than one wine locker?
Yes. If you pay monthly, all lockers will be charged to your account in a single charge on the first of each month. If you pay annually, you ca choose to have different lockers due for payment at different times of the year.

Can I lease wine lockers at more than one Ideal 55 wine storage facility?

How do I rent or lease a wine locker?
If you are a new client, step one is to contact us and let us know what location interests you and what are your size needs. We will reply with detailed information and an offer to provide you a no obligation tour of the wine storage facility that interests you. When you are ready to lease a locker or room, you may complete lease paperwork via e-mailed, fax, or in person.

What documentation do I need to provide in order to lease a wine locker?
We require government issued photo ID for each person that will have access to the wine storage facility. We retain a copy of your photo ID on file.

I’m an existing client. How do I rent or lease and additional wine locker?
We make adding space (or subtracting space) to your lease easy. At some of our facilities, you may notice white “available” tags on empty lockers. These tags include a three step lease process that you can accomplish in under 2 minutes. If you do not see available tags in your wine storage facility, please contact us with your specific needs and we’ll reply to you with options.

How do I move my wine in and out of the facility?
We provide hand trucks for your free use at all of our facilities.

Do you have handcarts or dollies that I can use at your facilities?
Yes, we provide hand trucks for your free use at all of our facilities.

Do I store my wine in boxes or loose bottles?
You may store your wine any way you wish though we do have some guidelines.

  • we suggest you remove your bottles from large shipping boxes. After all, you are leasing space, why fill it with Styrofoam or cardboard packing material?
  • we require that you not exceed the stated capacity of your space. For example, if you are stacking loose bottles in a 12 case locker, you may not place more than 144 750ml bottles in your locker. Glass and wine are heavy and your locker and the entire facility has been engineered for certain weight capacities.
  • Some of our wine lockers at some of our facilities come with built in wine racks. Contact Us if you are interested in one of these lockers.
  • You are free to install your own portable (ie: removable and not permanently installed) wine racks in your locker.

Can I change the size of my wine locker?
Yes, you can do this at any time as long as there are smaller lockers available. We make the process as easy as a one page lease addendum that memorializes the change. We’ll even prorate your payments based on the day you make the change.

Do you provide locks? Do you keep a key to my wine locker?
Our new facilities are constructed with built in high security locks in steel lockers. We maintain a safe. Working key copies can only be obtained through Ideal 55. Lockers in our older facilities are constructed of wood and the door hasps will accommodate almost any size of keyed or combination lock that you provide.

Do you rent space month-to-month or do I have to sign a lease?
The paperwork for you wine locker includes a lease with an initial term of one year. After one year, your lease renews monthly. Though during your initial year as well as in subsequent years you may pay monthly annually, of for multiple years in advance and you may change your payment frequency at any time.

Do I need to give you notice when I move out?
Yes, we require 30 days notice prior to your move out. We need this time in order to stop any automatic payments as well as to prepare and coordinate for the next lessee (we often have waiting lists) to occupy the locker.

When can I access my wine locker?
All Ideal 55 wine locker facilities offer clients 24/7/365 access unless otherwise noted or unless you lease a “long term” non-access locker.

If I rent a wine locker from you, can my spouse or a friend have access, too?
Yes, you may name up to two additional persons that you wish to have access to your locker. Each person must provide valid government photo ID and each person will be issued their own access card.

If I lose my key and/or access card, what do I do?
Let us know. We can deactivate the missing card and issue a new one to you. There is a $25 charge for a new access card.

What kind of documentation do I need to provide to rent a wine locker?
We require valid government issued photo ID from every new tenant. We may also verify your contact information or any other information you provide.

Can I rent in person, or on the telephone?
While you may complete lease paperwork via e-mail and fax, new clients need to meet an Ideal 55 representative in order to choose a locker location and learn of any assigned parking details or delivery details as well as to learn the access points and procedures of a particular facility.
